The Hunger Games

Oh yes, I'm jumping on (the bandwagon), kind of. So, last week I decided I wanted to read The Hunger Games, since the movie is coming out next month and all. And here's my little review. All in all, it was a good book. However, it was no Twilight. I say this in that something about the Twilight books kept dragging me in. With The Hunger Games, it was hard for me to get passed Part 1. I kind of forced myself to get passed it because I wanted it to get better. LOL! And it did. I'm not sure how to feel about the ending of the book, but I do want to read the next one, Catching Fire. But not so much where I had to run out and get it. I will, eventually. Oh, and I plan on seeing the movie. Eeep. I hope they did the book justice. My biggest dread about books to movies...

Disneyland...All Year Round

This year we've decided against taking a big vacation. Last year we went on a Disney Cruise, and well this year, I wasn't sure what we wanted to do or where we wanted to go. So, we decided to hold off on a big vacation and instead take day trips to Disneyland. Since we've had the passes, we've been quite a few times! Like 3 times in one week!

The kids absolutely love it! Jacob can now go on some big rides, and his favorite at the moment is Star Tours. He even wears his 3D glasses! Something he would not do a year ago. I think it's time to maybe introduce the Star Wars movies! Isabella adores anything Mickey Mouse. Her favorite show is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. And she knows the names of all the characters. It's adorable! And every time she sees Mickey or Minnie she gets really excited. But I have to take her to meet them. In due time. We do have a year. And we've also had the opportunity to see my niece and nephew in a Disneyland parade with their high school band.

I'm uber excited for a year of Disney magic, and I can't wait until this summer when Cars Land opens up at California Adventure. Jacob's going to love it!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

It's a day of LOVE! And this year it's super exciting! Jacob's having his very first Valentine's party and we are both super stoked! I signed up to take cookies, homemade of course. From scratch? Of course not!. Hehe. I like simple and easy! And I made Jacob's Valentine's cards. I was heavily inspired by Pinterest. Surprised? Not really, right?

Like I said, I was looking for super simple and easy peasy. So I made cake mix cookies! How easy can it get? I used the recipe on the side of the box (I used this recipe here), dipped them in sprinkles (inspired by Stop lookin' Get cookin') , and baked those suckers up in less than 10 minutes. And for his Valentine's cards, I didn't want to give out the usual pile of sugar, so I found an alternative, Goldfish crackers! I designed a tag, bagged up those fishies, and stapled on a tag. EEE. ZZZ. Aren't they cute?! I *heart* them!

{DIY} Etched Monogram Mugs

I was at it again with another DIY Christmas gift, but this year I procrastinated to the very end. In addition to regular gifts, I made a small gift for everyone. I scoured blogs, the Internet, and Pinterest for ideas. I wanted to make something easy, inexpensive, but nice. So, I stumbled upon etching. I had no idea this could be done at home, but I found this awesome etching creaming called Armour Etch. It was super easy to use and almost fool proof...almost. Here's what I did...

You'll need:
Glass mugs/beer steins
Armour Etch
Sponge brush
Contact paper
Cricut cutter or stencil design
Rubber gloves
Ventilated area

I bought my glass mugs & steins at my local 99¢ Store, but I'm sure you could find something similar at the $ Tree. I also bought the contact paper at the 99¢ Store. The Armour Etch can be found at Michaels craft stores or online.

The first thing I did was rinse my mugs. While they were drying, I used my cricut to cut out monogram initials from my contact paper. I did last name initials only. I didn't want to get too complicated.

After the mugs were dried, I positioned the contact paper initials on the glasses. I tried my darnedest to get them as straight as possible.

Once they were all lettered up, I put on my gloves, in a well ventilated area, and I used my sponge to pack some cream on the area I wanted to be etched. Now here's a tip - You want the area that's going to be etched, to be thoroughly covered, but you don't want to do too much where the etching cream starts to run. Luckily, I caught this in time before there was too much damage. Hehe :)

You'll then leave the cream on as recommended by the jar's directions, however I left mine on for 15 minutes.

After the time is up, I rinsed the glasses (careful NOT to touch the cream), peeled off the contact paper, and I washed them with dish soap. And let dry.

They're done! That's it. This was the quickest gift I'd ever made and it was sooooooo easy, and everyone liked them! I think they look expensive! So, now that I've done these glasses, I have other stuff in mind like a glass baking dish, a lemonade jar, a cake stand, eep! I can't wait to try it on something else!
