Looking back at last August (here & here), it's hard to believe a year has passed. It was the fastest year of my life, and it's still whizzing by at lightning speed! Exactly a year ago around this time, I was anticipating Jacob's arrival and dealing with all the side effects of pregnancy including a nasty rash and carpel tunnel. I also braved an earthquake and infant classes. My how far we've come. Now as August approaches we're anticipating Jacob's 1st birthday. I'm super excited and can't wait to celebrate. I think I may cry that day. We may do something special on his actual birthday. If not, we have a party a couple of days later that's going to be just as awesome.
We have a couple of things to look forward to in the next few weeks. Jacob will be getting his first haircut, his 1st birthday portraits, the city's annual Corn Festival and possibly taking a day trip somewhere fun. Ah, it's going to be a crazy 2 weeks.
We'll have a walker soon...

Cruisin' & Relaxin'
Relaxin' and cruisin' that's what we've been doing during these dog days of summer. Actually, we stay in doors quite a bit since it's so hot out. But when we do go out, we have fun. Jacob loves the pool and lately he's been making a stink about being in his floaty. The last couple of times he's been swimming, he was okay for 10 to 15 minutes, but then he'd start moving and whining about getting out. He'd rather be held in the water. Uh-oh.
For the last couple of weeks I've been trying to catch Jacob in the act of quite a few things, but every time I reach for the camera he stops and immediately wants to play with it. Luckily, I've caught him clapping, playing pat-a-cake, taking some steps, and riding some of his toys. I'm hoping to catch him say "What's that" except it sounds like he's saying "Wsat." I also want to catch him waving "Hi" and "Bye." I also think we may have a gymnast. For the last week or so, he's been doing this downward dog yoga pose, half somersault thing. I have a picture, but I want video!

What's up?
Nothing spectacular going on over here. Well, except for all the new things Jacob has been doing. A few weeks ago he started waving, Saturday he learned how to clap, and now he's doing pat-a-cake. He's down to only 2 bottles a day for morning and night, but a sippy for lunch and snack. He took to sippies quite fast, but I'm not sure if I want to give up on the bottle completely. He also learned how to sip out of a straw a couple of weeks ago, too. Oh, and the funniest thing is that he loves Popsicles but he hates that he can't bite them easily. He's gotten used to otter pops 'cause they melt easily and he can eat 'em up quickly. As Jacob's 1st birthday moves closer, I find most of my time devoted to planning his party. I've bought and ordered a lot of stuff, and now I just have to put it all together. Right now my main concern is the cake, I want something cute and I found it, but we'll see how it comes out.
Other than that, things really are boring. Weekends are spent chillin' 'cause it's been HOT! I've been party planning, and running a bunch of errands. I can't believe summer is half way over! Hello?! Didn't it just start?
Always stickin' his tongue out!
Waving Bye

Yummy sippy...

Jacob is 11 months old.
One more month 'til the big O-N-E! I can't believe it. I really can't. Time just flies when you're having fun, and I'm truly having a ton of fun. Now that Jacob is 11 months old he understands a lot more. The big one is he now understands and waves Bye. He just started this last Thursday. I was leaving my mom's and she waved at him and he waved right back. He understands the word No, and I don't know if that's good or bad. Every time someone tells him no he gets upset, like the fun is ruined. He's primarily wearing 18 months now, and I think I may start him in 24 month clothing. I've been trying to get him into a sippy cup, and slowly he's getting used to it. Soon formula will be a thing of the past. I have no idea how much he's weighing or how tall he is, my guess is he's 23 pounds and 32 inches tall. We'll see more stats at his 1 year wellness check-up. Speaking of his 1 year, I'm in deep planning his first birthday. We've got the food nailed down, the theme, but I still I have to order the cake and get the goody bags together as well as a slew of other things, but I've got a month. Ack, only a month! I've got to get those invites out.

4th of July Weekend '09
Hope everyone had a nice and pleasant 4th! Ours was crazy hectic, but sooo much fun. Our weekend started Friday night. My older brother organized a camp out at my sister's house complete with tents, sleeping bags, swimming, hot dogs, smores, and ghost stories. All the kids, and most adults, loved the camp out and we may have another before summer ends. Oh, and Jess, Jacob, and I did not sleep out. No thanks. I got a lovely cold just in time for the holiday. That sucked, but I didn't let it hold me back. But we were invited back for breakfast cooked out on the fire (aka over the BBQ). The 4th was spent swimming, eating, and hanging out with family and friends. Fireworks were provided by our city at the local high school. We used to go every single year, but we hadn't been in ages. However, since this was Jacob's first 4th we wanted to start going again. Jacob was not fazed by the loud noise. At first, he would jump a little, and blink every time there was a pop, but then the novelty wore off and he wanted to play and laugh at all the kids around us. Despite having a good swim, he was a trooper and didn't hit the sack 'til about 10:30, and he was still in a good mood.
The partying didn't stop there, well at least not for me. I spent my Sunday at a quinceañera (15th Birthday aka Latin version of a sweet sixteen). My niece was in the court and my sister had 2 extra seats. And I do know the girl. This party was awesome. It was at the Los Angeles River Center & Gardens, right in the middle of the ghetto, but from the inside it was beautiful. No detail was left undone. The court performed a couple of choreographed dances that included fireworks, doves, and a costume change. The live band is well known around LA, and the food and open bar were great. This thing put my wedding to shame, but then again we didn't spend $75,000! That's what we guesstimate the cost to be. We want to know what they'll do for her wedding. Anywho, it was an exhausting weekend, but I had a blast.
This tent was huge!
We made popcorn and smores...
The morning after...
Jacob enjoying the pool on the 4th...
Annoyed by the flash just before the fireworks...
